The New Building Going Up In Enoch Ends A Four-Stop Errand Run

For the better part of a year, anyone driving through Enoch has been watching the same patch of ground for signs of progress. It started on a Friday morning in September 2025, when officials broke ground on the company's eighth Lin's Market, right here in Enoch.

Vice President of Construction Jared Mitchell told the crowd that day exactly what to expect next. Weeds would clear, footings and foundation would go in, and before anyone noticed, walls would be standing. About 50 people showed up for the groundbreaking, including Enoch Mayor Geoffrey Chesnut and Associated Foods leadership, and the target they set that morning was a grand opening in the summer of 2026.

What makes this particular building worth writing about isn't just that a grocery store is coming. It's that four separate errands Enoch residents have been running across town, or across the county line into Cedar City, are about to fold into one stop for the first time.

The Errands Nobody Loved Making

Ask around and you'll hear some version of the same weekly pattern. A hardware run for the half-finished project sitting in the garage. A coffee stop that means driving toward Cedar City because there's no drive-through espresso option close to home. A prescription that needs picking up on its own trip. Dinner that somebody in the car asks for on the way back, usually something fast, because nobody wants a fifth stop.

None of those four things has ever lived under one roof in Enoch. Groceries meant one direction. Hardware meant another. Coffee and a quick meal usually meant continuing on into Cedar City rather than turning back home. The new Lin's collapses that pattern into a single parking lot.

What's Actually Going Into The Building

The new store is 65,000 square feet, sizable enough to hold a full-service grocery operation alongside four additional tenants under the same roof. According to Associated Foods, the finished building will include:

• A full-service Lin's Market with fresh produce, a scratch bakery, a deli, and a butcher counter
• A drive-through pharmacy
• A Starbucks coffee house
• An Arctic Circle restaurant
• An ACE Hardware store

Mayor Chesnut, speaking at the groundbreaking, kept his comment short and direct: "The future that this will present for our community is amazing." Greg Welling, vice president of retail operations for Associated Retail Operations, described the project in similar terms, saying the company is "investing in a future where food, service, and connection intersect in powerful ways."

Construction moved through the winter and spring, and Associated Foods has continued to point toward a summer 2026 grand opening without yet publishing a specific ribbon-cutting date. For a town that's watched the site closely for months, the wait is nearly over.

Why Enoch, And Why Now

Retailers building at this scale study rooftops years before they study current foot traffic, and Enoch has been adding rooftops at a pace that's hard to ignore. As of this summer, the city council is actively reviewing a 279.54-acre planned development on the north side of town, proposed by Boots Development LLC, that could bring as many as 1,106 new dwelling units along with two commercial nodes and nearly 56 acres of open space. The plan calls for new public access roads connecting Midvalley Road to Bulldog Road, according to the city's own July 2026 council agenda.

A grocery anchor with a pharmacy and hardware store attached is the kind of investment that follows sustained residential growth rather than leading it on a guess. Associated Foods is building for the Enoch that's arriving over the next several years, not just the one that exists on the ground today.

The Name On The Marquee Goes Back More Than Seventy Years

It's easy to read past this as just another chain grocery opening, but the Lin's name carries more local history than the headline suggests. In 1955, Lin Orton, a former butcher at Southern Utah Wholesale Meats, and his wife Reva opened the first Lin's Market on Main Street in Cedar City. The business passed to a second generation of Ortons before Associated Food Stores purchased the chain in 1999. The company now operates seven stores across Southern Utah and Nevada, from Overton to Price, before this eighth location.

More than seventy years after that first store on Main Street, the eighth Lin's is going up one town over, in the community that's grown up around Cedar City's edges. For anyone whose family has shopped at Lin's for decades, that's not a small detail. The store opening near you this summer carries the same name, and in some ways the same family legacy, as the market your grandparents may have walked into downtown.

What Actually Changes Once The Doors Open

The practical difference shows up in ordinary weeks, not dramatic ones. A weeknight after a loop out at Three Peaks won't require a stop in Cedar City for something to eat on the way home. A Saturday hardware project and the grocery list can happen in the same parking lot instead of two different ones. A prescription pickup stops being its own separate trip.

None of this changes anything about property values or the shape of the housing market. What it changes is how many places you have to drive to get through a normal week in a town that's been asking residents to keep driving somewhere else for the basics.

That's worth noticing if you already call Enoch home. It's one more sign the town is filling in around the people already living here, rather than growing outward while everyone still drives elsewhere for coffee, hardware, and dinner.
